milan-games-week-the-division-dev-interviewYesterday was the start of the Milan Games Week and we have already got some new information provided by The Division Lead Game Designer James Arthur from Ubisoft Reflections due to an live on-site Twitch Q&A. Fortunately the interviewer asked all questions in English, so we were able to pull out the necessary new bits, which you can find here in a short summary.

World and Weather

The game always takes place in winter, so there won’t be any other seasons like summer while the day and night cycle is fully dynamic. As we have learned yesterday, the aim assist could be affected when in heavy snow storms, but the weapons themselves won’t break or jam.

Character Customization

The character will be fully customizable, you can choose and change …

  • between male or female
  • Skin color
  • Facial features (like tattoos and scars?)
  • Various selections to change body type
  • Different load-outs, which also affects the appearance of the body armor
  • Customizable backpacks and hats

Missions

All missions can be played in group with up to 4 players or solo.

What About Stealth?

There won’t be any stealth missions per se, but stealth is still very important for enemy encounters in terms of choosing the right position and tactics before you engage.

Furthermore there is no stealth display, it’s purely based on the reactions of the enemies, so you have to watch them closely in order to get not detected by them when approaching. To increase your chances, use the pulse skill and attach a silencer to your weapon.

Although you are firing at enemies, they first have to figure out where you actually are, while an snow storm could heavily increase the time until they spot you (or you them).

And as always, there is no functionality to crouch.

Market

The market is in an alpha balancing phase, but seems so that it is still in the game, which is pretty cool!
