Due to a partnership between Ubisoft and the Swedish high-technology company Tobii, Tom Clancy’s The Division will feature Tobii’s eye-tracking system, which means that players can expect a completely new and unique, as well as more realistic and immersive gameplay experience by just moving their eyes.
We don’t know exactly what tracking features will be supported at this time, but according to Tobii’s press release from January 4th 2016, the first consumer notebook with integrated eye-tracking, namely the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro, will start shipping to consumers in January 2016 and be bundled with The Division.
More details about the functionality can be expected early 2016.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Rogue already supports this eye-tracking technology with a feature called Infinite Screen, which centers the view on the screen based on where you are looking at.
The number of possibilities will be increased in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, so that you can aim at enemies by just looking at them or run into one direction while aiming in another one. In addition to that and what sounds very interesting is that your character’s eyes will adapt to different lighting environments.
Here’s a short video about how these features work in AC and to get a first glimpse of what things are currently possible.
For gamers who don’t want to spend so much money on a new notebook, Tobii is also offering a consumer device called the EyeX Controller for affordable €119 / $139.
