Ubisoft and NVIDIA have published a new The Division trailer that showcases exclusive technologies provided by NVIDIA GameWorks, including HBAO (Horizon-Based Ambient Occlusion) and PCSS (Percentage Closer Soft Shadows).
You don’t have to know much about those features as The Division’s Technical Director Anders Holmquist explains them in detail. While the HBAO+ technology allowed them to add richer, more realistic and detailed shadows to objects, PCSS is responsible for the rendering of shadows that progressively soften as the distance from objects, like Manhattan’s skyscrapers, increases.
